Basic Components of a Solar Water Heater

While the non-renewable nature of electricity is posing threat to the entire mankind, solar energy is fast becoming its intelligent alternative. The non-exhaustive nature of this form of energy is the first important criterion why more and more people are banking upon it. Among the other benefits of solar energy include its affluent availability for domestic as well as industrial purposes.

This explains why solar heating panels are widely used in modern homes today for heating hot water.

Now you might be inquisitive to know about the basic components of this intelligent device. So, here they are for you:

  • Solar panels:
If you have ever visited any solar pumping station, you have definitely seen components that trap sunrays for its conversion into heat. Similar such components are provided with the domestic solar heating panels too. These components are flat, black in color and are made from metal or rubber to trap maximum daylight. A fluid that runs in channels located below these panels get heated when it comes in contact to the heated panels, and passes on the heat to the absorber plate.
  • Storage cylinder:
The heat that is passed on to the absorber plate simultaneously heats up water. This water is stored in an insulated storage cylinder that retains the temperature of water even for hours after the cooling down of the solar panel in the evening. Often, this attribute is considered as the contribution of solar cylinder that helps in storing solar energy for future use.
